Group of 100 Submission on
UIG Review of Operations
The main points made in the G100 submission were:
The UIG should deal with issues that are more specific and narrower than many of those on its recent agenda to facilitate a faster and more timely response.
The general availability of UIG papers through increased use of the web site would improve awareness of UIG activities.
Formal exposure of draft Consensus Views for a comment period of 4 weeks would focus the attention of constituents.
Concern about the timing of the operative date of UIG Consensus Views, the delays associated with the veto period, the publication and availability of the final document.
The size and composition of the UIG should be reviewed. The G100 proposed that membership should be 8 - 10 (currently 16) and that, as occurs in respect of the AASB, appointments should be made on the basis of technical expertise and business experience.
The UIG should be chaired by the AASB Chairman or another member of the AASB and the Chairman should have the right to vote on technical items.
Note: A summary of responses to the UIG Survey is posted on the AASB's web site www.aasb.gov.au
